Paul McDermott (FRSPH, FIHEEM, MWMS) has an Honours degree and PhD in microbiology and spent 13 years working as a Specialist Inspector in the HSE’s Biological Agents Unit, fulfilling the role of expert witness and contributing to the production of numerous guidance documents.

Since setting up his biorisk consultancy in July 2014, Paul has undertaken a variety of work including the role of AE (Water) at a number of NHS Trusts and supports water risk management arrangements at large academic institutions. Paul also continues to provide expert witness services to HSE.

Consultant Microbiologist and infection Control doctor at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Previously Director of Infection Prevention and Control at University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire 2004-2013 during which they had the largest PFI build. This stimulated my interest in hospital design and the links to infection control especially with water / waste systems.

During a 30 year career at Armitage Shanks Jonathan developed many innovative healthcare products. He studied design and engineering and is an affiliate member of The Royal Institute of British Architects, an Associate Member of The Healthcare Infection Society and a full member of the Water Management Society Jonathan has travelled the World visiting many hospitals to better understand how sanitaryware can be improved and made safer for patients. Recently Jonathan was made a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health. Jonathan now runs a consultancy and has become one of the World’s leading experts in sanitary infection control issues

David is an independent consultant, having been involved in drinking and environmental water microbiology for 40 years. After qualifying in Microbiology from the University of Surrey, he joined Thames Water, before spending 8 years in South Africa. Prior to his current role, David was Company Advisor for Severn Trent Water, where for 15 years he was involved in the development of improved methods for the microbiological assessment of water quality including the development of the MLGA medium for E. coli and coliforms and the Filta-Max system for Cryptosporidium analysis. David is a member of several ISO and BSI working groups.
